I tried they dont fit our cars, the adapters dont come big enough. Any other suggestions?

The largest adapter makes thread contact, but can be pulled out due to it being a little too small. Loc-tight or silicone can be a redneck fix, or find another adapter.

That would be worthless for an antenna. You would be better off welding a bolt to the bottom then using loctite.

I used an AutoZone spiral shorty antenna on my Tib for 7 years. I had one on my wife's Mustang for 7 years. I didn't notice a reduction in reception.

Yeah and people don't notice the reduction in reception when they hold their iPhone 4 the wrong way until it looses reception. Antennas are tuned for a wavelength. That's why pretty much every antenna is the same length on cars +- a couple of inches
