^^ that's normal. It's because the clock is actually designed like a vacuum tube. There's a negative and a positve and a grid, then the electrons are held in place until either the negative or positve becomes enough for them to hop across the grid and cause a light. It's pretty cool when you look at how it's done.
Seriously, clean it with alcohol. Mine did that for a long time. You can't see the particals which are causing it not to make the connection. A small piece of dust or a bit of skin oil strateigically placed in the center of the button can cause it to not make a good connnection.

They get hot inside and leave traces of metal on the walls.

I usually use a rubber eraser to clean these kinds of contacts, and mine are sparkling. No worky.

the metalic contacts aren't usually the problem except with batteries. They're a good thing to check, but not usually the culprit. The problem is in the rubber portion not making correct contact or being coated with something. Make sure that the rubberish button is cleaned. you can check to see if it's working or not by simulating the button with a pair of plyers or something. Pull the face off, hook up the clock separate from the dashboard. Use any piece of metal you can to make a connection where the button usually would do so.
My hour button hole is messed up from where i put mad pressure on it to make the clock work. It will never be the same again. All I had to do was take the clock back apart and clean everything, put it back together and it worked just fine. I just wish I had known that to start with.

^^ Most of the aftermarket stereos have time on them. I think most of us have aftermarket stereos. I'd like the option to display something else.

i'd go for a clock but aren't the '97-'99 different from '00-'01? i'm sure with a poll and a good price we could use some clocks that actually work. i'm not sure how many people are interested.
