I had that problem when i was doing my clutch, i fugged the threads up pretty good.
I went to pick and pulls and stuff to find a new one, with no luck
Ended up getting a big file and fixing it myself. it wasnt as hard as i thought. Post up a picture of the axle and ill tell you if you can fix it.

Pepboys was just having a special on axles, like 59 bucks. Just go get a new one man, it's less than 100 dollars.

hey their people, today was suppose to be the day that my tibby got the all new D/S rotor+new driver axle+new front studs done, but the tibby only got the 2 rear breaks done. my mechanic could not remove the driver axle or the studs because according him, he told me that to remove the hub, and wheel bearing but he told me that he had to do it with a machine because he could not remove the hub by banging it out, he wanted to order new hubs so if he removed them and they happen to get damaged that he would place the new ones in. what do you guys think?

For starters, although we're all glad you used the search feature, you should've started a new thread rather than reviving a 2-year old thread that really doesn't have anything to do with your question. Second, you have a '97, which is a one-year car. The '97 has a unique axle set-up called a "captive rotor" set-up. To remove the rotor, you need to disassemble the hub, which requires a press. Your mechanic isn't trying to screw you.

sorry for the resurrection, but actually my current tiburon is a 98 "fx" I believe, so then I guess his honest, since you guys confirm that a press is a must in this occasion, yes my mechanic was only able to install the 2 rear rotors with pads, but when he got to the front driver side he wasnt able to pull it off, so now I got to come back this thursday when he recieves new hubs, so if upon removal of the hub, it gets damaged he has new ones to put on, but thats only he the hubs are damaged upon removal.
