HKC: yeah I know.. I really wanted to go 4WD but there were just too many cons (illegal, costly) than pros.

I'm having thoughts on going RWD though..LOL

Probably has something to do with modifying the car as opposed to being AWD....but thats just my guess. I know some places don't allow anything aftermarket, so people get really sneaky...

You may be right, but in that case who's gonna give ya shit for being AWD, when you've got a turboed Mitsu motor sitting under the hood of a Hyundai, lol.

DarkShark: yeah it is "illegal" to convert a car into 4WD or RWD if the car's platform isn't 4WD/RWD to begin with, as it might involve cutting up the chassis and such.

if caught, the authorities will basically impound the car and to have it released will involve alot of procedures

Oh ok, that sucks man, but I understand the reasoning behind the law. Although, I think that they should have some way around it if you provided the proper proof that the frame was not altered or that the proper reinforcements were made and that the chassis is still stable enough.

DarkShark: yeah there is a way, we can basically bribe the authorities so that they'd approve the car. but the documentation will still state that the car is 2wd, so if caught, the owner has to go through the process all over again. drillsergeant.gif

Can you make it legal once you do all of the conversions? Here in Croatia almost everything is illegal (including changing engine or turbocharging a non-turbo car) but when you do make your changes to the there is a homologation process through which you can make your mods legal. Of course your car has to satisfy certain safety demands but once everything is satisfied you get new papers saying that your mods are legal. I will be going through this process to make my turbocharged tib legal soon. I thought that every country has a similar process.

Hive: yeah there is, but only to a certain extent. but anything which has to do with the chassis will be illegal no matter wut. and by this i mean cutting/welding of the chassis.

if it was a simple bolt on, then most likely the mod will pass. I believe to 4wd the tib, work has to be done on the chassis rite?

yeah, the work that has to be done with the chassis is in the rear though, the dirveshaft would run down the exhaust channel, but then you would need to cut it up back there to throw in the rear axle and such.

and the thing is, there wouldn't be many authorities that i know of, that would be able to tell if a car was RWD, FWD, AWD by looking at a car. even seeing the car drive, they wouldn't know.

i wouldn't think you would have trouble with it, just for the fact that no one would be able to tell, unless word somehow got around.

what officer is going to think to look under someones car when they got pulled over to see if they changed their drivetrain. lmao.gif

i have a folder of a AWD evo tib on my laptop at home, ill try to see if there are good enough underside pics to see what needs to be hacked up.

good thing about having that EVO motor and trans in there, you can now go RWD if you want fing02.gif just get the AWD trans and don't use the FWD portion. some company made their evo8 a drift car by blocking off the front axle openings
