well i decided since i had my stock shifter just sitting around, i would modify it to make my own little "homemade short shifter"

got it in the car today and since my shifter didnt come with the bottom bushing i was able to use the stock bushing with the stock shifter and it got rid of all the slop i had with my IS short throw

heres a few pics, probably took me 15 mins at the most

its the same height as my IS shifter but next week im going to drop it a little bit more, worked great and if you have access to a welder makes it easier/cheaper than going out and buying one

A for effort, but its not a short throw shifter.

^^ ok well would someone explain what the real difference is other than the "block" design of a sts?

a short throw is the distance between gears, not the heigth of your lever.

in essence, if you shorten the distance in your gear pattern you can shifter faster which leads to faster times.

btw, i know you got a boot cover but damn, at least smooth down that eagle terd of a weld you stuck that back together with ,lol. lmao.gif

honestly i notice no ifference in the distance i have to go from my stocker right now compared to my import shark shifter

but by shortening the height it reduces the arc that you have to move the shifter to get it into gear = short gear distance

dont worry about the crappy welding job i ground that all down, it was that big because my welder couldnt go up any higher to penetrate all the way into the metal so i had to put a thick layer on

An actual short throw shifter will move the pivot point up making the lower portion longer and simultaniously making top shorter. thus decreasing the angle needed between gears. just hacking the top apart isnt doing anything for the lower portion.

well its not do anything for the lower portion other than making the entire pivot point smaller

like i had said you dont have to rotate the shifter as far by making it shorter which will make the distance shorter between your gears as you move

There is a difference between distance and angle, just so you know.

i do know that

but lets say you have a stock shifter with a 6 in radius, in order to put it in gear you move it 30 degrees that means you're moving the top of the knob roughly 6 inches

now lets say you cut off 2 inches from the radius, you're still moving 30 degrees into gear but now you only have to move it rouchly 4 inches = shorter distance into gears
