PLEASE NOTE: i am not claiming this to be any defect or weakness within the beta II transmission

i broke the reverse gear in my beta II trans, and it only had 12k miles on it!
but thats what happens when your foot slips off the clutch, what is wierd tho is the reverse gear was already starting to whine..with 12k miles on it.

Godddamn. I'm surprised none of my gears look like that considering how many times I've grinded them. That happened after your foot slipped off the clutch just once?

I have heard that the way the gears are cut that there will be whine all the time, my car whines when its in reverse. They cut the rest of the gears to be quieter.

i should have taken a picture of the shaft too, there were signs of wear on it and with that low miles i can't imagine that would be normal. doesn't really matter now though.

has anyone used the trans from the newer tiburons(03-06)? no not the v6, the 2.0 trans in those have a different gearing than the elantras have, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them?

Reverse gear will always whine. It is not beveled and angled like the rest of the gears. reverse is straight up and down. the whine is the sound of the teeth chattering together. Less whine from a reverse gear is a sign of wearing.

It looks like your foot slipped off the clutch, after you put the car in reverse going 25-30 miles per hour. Am I right?

^^how do you like it? i think i might go test drive a tib to check out the trans, i remember looking up the ratios when i got this trans but can't remember which gears were higher or lower.

i was pretty much stationary, maybe rolling forward at most 0-3 mph, but the clutch slipped while going into gear at probably 4000+ rpm.

it actually still drove after this. i didn't drive it anywhere cuz i didn't want to wedge one of the teeth into another gear and screw it up even more but i pulled it into the garage(luckily(or is it?) for me it happened in my driveway)

Sorry you destroyed your transmission but why are you revving the engine at 4,000+ rpm when trying to engage reverse?
