now im getting worried. i just pulled the clutch and it isnt worn out. at least half to 3/4 the thickness of the new one. flywheel and pressure plate both look good.
so why would it not go back into gear?
-back story here- on my way home from work i shifted from 2nd to 3rd and car would no longer go into gear. also the pedal lost its "feel". i just assumed the clutch had failed due to its miles and because it had slipped twice within the past couple weeks.
guess i'll find out when i put it all back together

If ever a question needed to be split into a new topic thread, this is it.
I'm going to say "check your hydraulics." My hunch goes to the slave cylinder seals being bad. Have somebody step on the clutch pedal and see if the slave extends/retracts. If not, SOMETHING in the hydraulic system is out. Look up in the passenger compartment on the firewall (behind the steering wheel) and see if the clutch master cylinder has any oil anywhere. Pull back the boot, if there is one. Have paper towels handy. Pull back the boot on the slave also (if any) and see if it has oil in there, too.
Basically you should have no oil loose anywhere. Best case is you give O'Reilley's Auto Parts $20 for a clutch slave cylinder and fix it in 10 minutes. "slipping" clutch could be leaking hydraulics not pressing hard enough.

slave cylnder worked clutch fork moved. the fact that i lost all gears tells me that the tranny was disengaged. im assuming in the 1.5 that the clutch will fail in the dissengaged position. i also looked into the dif, everything appears intact (no broken spider gears). stuck and axle in and rotated the assembly, again everything feels normal, minimal resistance, no clanking or abnormal sounds.
-also noticed that the throw out bearing is pretty worn out out. the clutch disc is slightly glazed over. first thing n the morning im gonna finish securing the tranny in place.
-another question on that. at the front and rear bolts that secure eng to tranny, there are two sleeves (or bushings) that im guessing are for alignment. the trans is in place up to that position but will not go over these sleeves. do i need to tighten all the tranny to engine bolts a little at a time to "press" the tranny over these or am i missing something. forgive my inexperiance but this is the first time ive pulled a fwd tranny.

Show a picture or your sleeves/bushings are imaginary! Maybe some locating dowels? http://tr6.danielsonfamily.org/LocatingDowels.htm
if the bearing is TOTALLY wasted it might not do its job. Is it worn out like a little floppy or worn out like the middle fell out? If you can get the transaxle back on, see if you can tell if the clutch is disengaging or not, or if the bearing is too toasted to allow the fork to push hard enough where it needs to (or whatever)

its the master cylinder in ur firewall snuggled in, the cylinder bore probably lost its compression, if it just revs high whenever it wants to that is

replaced the clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing, and pressure plate. transmission now engages in all gears. still dont like the feel of the clutch (its way to week) but i have driffin all around the square in town and up to highway a ways with no problems.
-im gonna start by relooking for leaks from the slave cylnder and master cylnder. so far no air in the system but still thats the most likely cause. even though the slave cylnder is only 6 months old i could have easily damaged it during the install/removal process
-next i would guess that the new pressure plate is bad from stock or just a poor design (even though this is highly unlikey)

when i replaced the slave cylnder back in february, so about 6 months ago. also about 50% got drained during the bleeding process this week.
-so far no leaks from slave cyl or master cyl.
-i just washed the engine compartment clean then drove the car about 90 miles. again no leaks.
-i watched the slave cyl as i pressed the clutch and i have full travel. if i give it 1/4 pedal i get 1/4 movement, 1/2 pedal i get 1/2 movement, etc.
-master cyl still full from the other day.
- but now the clutch will slip under heavy throttle especially at higher speeds (4th and 5th gear mainly).
stocker to answer ur and my other question about the sleeves. they were basicaly locating pins. there are 4 bolts that hold the engine to the transmision. 2 up top (about 11:30 and 12:30) that have a 17mm head. the other two are on the front/rear of the trans (about 3:00 and 9:00) and they have a 14mm head. it was the 2 with the 14mm head that i saw. the sleeve locates the trans during install and is hollow so that 2 of the bolts go thru the locating pin.

If the clutch is slipping, go easy on it until you get something that will hold more torque. Did you use all new parts or re-use a clutch plate or something?
