Default Re: The Theta is here!!!

Okay, I get a lot of requests on how I find stuff I find on Ebay.

The key is LEARN TO DO SEARCHES CORRECTLY.

It actually takes a bit of math...

For example.

I'm looking for a Tiburon Hood, from a 2001 Tiburon.

What do I put in?

<span style="color:green">Tiburon</span>

No. You'll come up with about 4K listings for everything made for a tiburon, AND everything made with that name in it. Bikes, shoes, knives, EVERYTHING.

Searches on Ebay can have the same modifiers as you use in search engines.

Such as...

<span style="color:cyan">"Tiburon Hood"</span>, With Quotation Marks, will find every listing with that EXACT PHRASE in it.

This is much better. You'll come up with 200 listings maybe. But here we have another problem. Let's say you want to know NOW. Right? You have no time to go thru 10 pages of listings. So, now you use this one...

<span style="color:red">"Tiburon Hood" -03 -04 -05</span>

That search will find all items listed with the EXACT PHRASE "Tiburon Hood" but it will exclude any that have 03, 04, or 05 listed for them. This would keep the GK's out of your search. Handy eh? You can adjust any of these variables to get different results.

Tiburon Hood -03 -04 -05 (With the "Search descriptions" block checked)

^^^
This one will find the most results relating to what you want.

The Search Descriptions block changes stuff a bit. What it does is instead of Ebay just searching auction TITLES, it searches TITLES and DESCRIPTIONS. Keeps you from having to look at every auction.

Now. Let's say you get a really good search that you like, and you want to be able to use it whenever you want.

How do you save it?

Copy your search.

Go to http://my.ebay.com and click on Searches on the left under favorites.

On the right click on Add New Searches.

Add your search.

That's it. next time you want to run that same search, go back into searches and click on whatever you titled your search.

You can also have Ebay auto email you listings for searches. Very nice.

Alas, my best piece of advise.

Once you start building your car up and are tired of seeing BOMZ MUFFLERs or whatever, with all your searches, or you finally have your exhaust and don't want to see results for them anymore, do this.

Make a new search in My Ebay for <span style="colorrange">"tiburon"</span> . Save it.

Everytime you find an item that you don't want to see anymore, edit that search to read...

<span style="color:yellow">"tiburon" -coffee -mermaids -yacht -vinyl -grill -knife -2003 -2004</span> (or similar)

Just keep in mind, you need to make sure you don't put in some things. Like if you don't want those BS Intake chips, don't put in <span style="color:red">-chip</span>, as you may miss out on some listings you DO want to see.

Here is my current search...

Title = "tiburon" -everything (The quotation marks are there so I can edit my search later by just adding a little bit of stuff at a time)

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>"tiburon" -coffee -mermaids -yacht -vinyl -grill -knife -2003 -2004 -farberware -decal -banner -03 -04 -antenna -bulb -tee -key -jacket -california -residence -dress -penn -shoes -xenon -clip -chip -flask -zenon -n1 -alarm -monza -license -list -krypton -v6 -fireball -h1 -medallion -dragger -performancemodule -intake -screw -hayabusa -shield -poster -muffler -pool -mask -decal -"dash trim" -watch -sign -housetops -harbor -george -ca -"san fran" -shimano -sunglasses -parkway -"hot wheels" -diecast -"1:32" -tango -bay -hy04 -"factory wire harness" -tachometer</div>

I have more I have to add though, I just haven't edited it in some time.

A few last tips.

1. Don't put in spaces. If you don't want Performance Modules, don't put in -performance module . This will only exclude items that say PERFORMANCE, and INCLUDE all MODULES. I haven't tried it, but I think that -"performance module" would work.

2. Live with it. There are some words you may just have to leave out of your exclusions list because there might be an item you want. Remember -TB will exclude an OEM TB from your listing, but also BBTB, which is what you are looking for. Partial matches will work unfortunately.

3. Tiberon / Hundia. You COULD include these without a minus sign to bring in more results, but do you really want to buy parts from someone that can't even SPELL???

4. Feedback. Leave it to get it. I try to leave funny feedback. Point is though, feedback IS your rep on Ebay, so make sure you watch the feedback from the folks you buy from. I usually won't buy from someone with a feedback lower than %98. ESPECIALLY if they have thousands of sales.

5. Common sence. Remember, you are dealing with everyday people on Ebay. Sometimes they miss the post office and can't drop your item off, sometimes shipping takes awhile. I currently have a claim with UPS for a BBTB for ABQElantra. Stuff happens. Don't take it out on the person that you bought from, if they really tried and TRY to help.

Feel free to add more to this folks, but don't whore here.

Wow, I always just go to ebaymotors.com, search for Tiburon, and depending on what I'm searching for, sort the price from highest to lowest or lowest to highest. Looking for body parts or engine stuff? Highest price. Accessories or lighting? Lowest to highest price. smile.gif
