I had owned 2 Chevy's, a VW, and they all fell apart within 30K miles after buying them. I bought a 93 Excel with 39,000 miles on it.

That car was sold here in Albuquerque NM a few months ago, is still driving around daily, and has well over 185,000 miles on it.

STRONG too.

Hyundai has had my quality vote for a long time now, so I started looking around. I loved the older Neons and always wanted one (Actually owned a "espresso" for a week), then I found the Tibs. I was not really looking for a new car because my Excel was a chick magnet (LOL) then finally one day I saw the RD2's. I really started trying to find a used one and finally managed to trade in my soon to be wife's 198? Camero (Worst car ever) for $1500 and we got the Tib. I've loved that car since the first day I took it for a test drive.

What was strange.. the dealership had 15 tibs on the lot... Today it is rare to see a tiburon in these parts.. I wonder where they all went?

You think so, Mad? You live in NJ right? Well here in PA, there seem to be RDTibs at every other used car lot. Two of my friends are looking into RDs now because of me.=)

My girlfriend and her friends are MADLY in love with my car. I do, however, have a friend who thinks I could have gotten a much better car for the money? He talks a lot of smack.

Don't understand what makes his statement valid seeing that he's got a POS '90 Civic that he paid PLENTY for, which is breaking down 24/7. LoL

Because
1. The body style of the tibby is soo much sexier than any other car
2. There NO fixed up rd's here in San Francisco
3 BE UNIQUE!!!

well when i was looking for a car i looked at tons of stuff. I just didn't like anything though. I was coming from driving a 1975 cutlass supreme daily and liked the fact that if you saw my car you knew you saw my car because there wasn't 2 like it around.

I originally wanted to get a black trans am, not really that many around and waaay less common than a camaro or mustang but i was going to get owned by the gas mileage because this was supposed to be my college car but when i looked at the fuel efficient cars alero's, escorts, focus, etc. it made me sick with their pure conformity and ugliness... I looked at toyota's and hondas, but eh wasn't liking it. then one magical day i was driving down 23 in ohio and saw out of the corner of my eye this blue sports car. We circled around and came back, 8k and only 11,300 miles, plus i had never seen one before. so we sat up a test drive (my first time on a stick) after mile i knew i had found the car I wanted.

even today I keep close track of all the rd tibs in the area. currently there is 1 red 1g, 1 red 1 black (currently wrecked) and one....... mad.gif BLUE 2g arg.... darn copycats. fortunently it's in ohio but is around ashland alot.

anyways i got my car mainly for looks(both that it looks good and are rare around here)/economy/and pure fun to drive.

I started out with a sunfire. It was manual and at the time I was learning to drive and I couldnt do the manual so we decided to trade it in. The first Tiburon I saw was a 2000 and it was silver. When I saw that car driving I went home and searched everywhere to find out what the hell it was. I was in love with the Tib as soon as I saw it. I very rarely see any around here (besides the gk) I like being different

My last car was a 3.8L V6 Holden sedan but my GF had to be able to drive whatever I got this time around, so big sixes & vee-eights were out of the question. Turbocharged cars were a no-no as insurance for under 25's here is a piss-take... So it had to be smallish, easy on the eye, naturally aspirated & relatively cheap.

Originally I had my heart set on a nice black 5 speed MIVEC FTO as I'd fallen in love with the engine wine & sharp handling but it proved too difficult to get a loan for it (it's a grey import over here).

Then my GF suggested the Coupe. She'd known someone back in the UK with one & they'd loved it so I started researching it a little.

I finally bit the bullet when I found this one, telling myself I could always trade it in a couple of years down the track if need be...

Two & a half years on & I'm still very happy with it smile.gif

I do the same, and there's gotta be less than a dozen in the year I've been looking for them. I've only seen three other RD2s, two stock and one completely riced. There's one nicey modded green RD1 in my area, see him a lot, and maybe 5-6 stock. That's it. And in a city as big as Richmond, such scarcity suprises me.

Of course, GKs are everywhere. I don't like the styling but it's nice to see they're popular.

went to a chevy dealership to look at a couple Lancers they had on the lot... both of which were Autotragics. i told the salesperson i wasn't interested and didn't even wanna open the door.

he then tries selling me a brand new Cavalier. yea. right. NO THANKS... he was starting to get desparate and then he comes upon the black RD2. completely loaded. took it for a spin and LOVED it.... til 2 years later it was destroyed by a Rustang

and i got my current tiburon cuz i was sick and fvckin tired of driving a JettaIII. and i love this community and the people i've met because of it.

Hyundai has my back. i will most likely stick with them now

There are a few reason why I bought my Tib. First of all, I had just graduated from college and got hired for a job out of town. Gas prices had just started to climb (remember ?) and I needed a car that was good on gas. Secondly, the Tiburon was different, it had it's own unique look. Lastly, I test drove other cars in the same price range, and I liked the Tib the most.
