i just put mt90 in my tranny & wow the difference is way noticeable. sooooo much smoother! smile.gif did you try the redline mtl? i have used royalpurple max gear which states its gl4 & gl5 compatible & ive also used some valvoline gl5 back when i was ignorant. btw i got my mt90 for $11.95 per quart i think it was. the race shop only had 2 on the shelf & ordered more for me that should be in later today. gonna drop by & pick up a 3rd bottle to top 'er off! tongue.gif

Yeah, I learned the hard way as well. GL-5 killed my tranny. I should have put Amsoil MTG or Redline MT90 a LONG time ago....

QUOTE (Krazy @ Mar 15 2010, 08:45 AM)
I just hit the 176,000 mile mark.

Im still running on the original engine and the original 5spd.

3rd Timing Belt, 2nd Timing Chain
2nd Water Pump
Replaced all the HLA's at 150,000
Currently on the 2nd clutch
2nd Ignition Coil
Original axles, cv's, and wheel bearings
Current suspension is a hybrid of H & R and Eibach parts
3rd set of outer tie rod ends
2nd set of lower control arms
All bushings are now polyurethane except for the front lower ctrl arms
Lower motor mounts are polyurethane and both upper mounts were replaced with oem ones recently
Countless brake pads and rotor swaps have been done
Countless sets of tires got consumed throughout the years
Most of the engine sensors that cost less than $50 have been replaced
I kept up on all the regular maintenance like fluid changes and plugs/wires
I only put Red Line MT90 Synthetic fluid in the tranny
I still have the original windshield (Until they ticket me, im leaving it on nana.gif )
The car has survived one semi major accident that replaced the radiator, hood and front bumper.

Thats about all I can think of for now.

My plan is to see how far I can push the original engine and tranny before something catastrophic happens that I can't fix requiring my to do a swap.

If anyone in California or a nearby state has a 2001 5spd that they might be selling over the next couple years then keep this post in mind and send me a PM. I would like to get my hands on another car so I could convert one of them into something I could start road racing with at some of the local tracks around here.

Just because it has never been done doesn't mean it can't be done

Judging by what you wrote, I think I have the best maintained RD1 and you have the best maintained RD2.
199,000 MILES

Here's what I do/change every 30,000 miles:

-Engine oil (Synthetic, Mobil 1, Amsoil, Pennzoil Platinum, Quaker State Synthentic, Castrol Syntec)
-Engine Oil filter (Hyundai OEM)
-Transmission oil (Amsoil MTG 75w90 GL-4 synthetic)
-Coolant Flush (Any green 50/50 kind)
-Thermostat (Napa)
-Timing Belt (Continental)
-P/S Fluid change (Generic brand)
-Clutch Fluid change (generic brand)
-Spark plugs (NGK OEM)
-Spark plug wires (Autozone Made in USA, Lifetime warranty, meaning I get free spark plug wires every 30k miles)
-Air Filter (Cheap purolator or STP. According to the oil analysis that I did, it filters silicon very well)
-Fuel Filter (Hyundai OEM)
-General engine bay cleaning
-Wash and Wax

I've got 240K on a 1999 Tib. Thats about 150K Miles. Stock clutch.

EDIT: All stock internals as well. Just basically replaced a power steering pump because it was noisy and I hate noise.

240k km on my Tib, about 150k miles. Same manual tranny, new clutch and power steering lines at 190k, engine rebuilt with head shaved down at 225k (just as a fun project, not because I had to). Been through several alternators, but that's mainly because I was running a pretty powerful sound system without a capacitor for a while. Still runs like a beast. Thinking about going turbo, but with the compression ratio I'm running at now, I doubt that would be very safe.

99 FX

111,xxx miles

newer kgb struts
ball joints
oem replacement clutch with act pp

30k engine 5k miles ago
1.5k GK tranny 5.5k miles ago

the only thing that it needs is a respray because the clear coat is crap on the sunroof and pass mirror and it has some very minor rust bubbles on the rear driver fender next to the bumper. the interiors are MINT, no rips or stains on the seats.

107k and stupidly haven't changed much beyond the oil and trans fluid at 102k.

A few tire bubbles from hitting potholes too.
