My auto tranny died at 62,000 miles. The second one lasted 64,000 miles. I decided to get a manual after than.

mines got 136k.

same clutch, not for long though (not because it's bad)
new wheel bearings, new halfshaft, other than that, regular maintenance only...
new tranny, but that's not really hyundai's fault or mine either.

they made a pretty good car with the rd's i suppose!

I just hit the 176,000 mile mark.

Im still running on the original engine and the original 5spd.

3rd Timing Belt, 2nd Timing Chain
2nd Water Pump
Replaced all the HLA's at 150,000
Currently on the 2nd clutch
2nd Ignition Coil
Original axles, cv's, and wheel bearings
Current suspension is a hybrid of H & R and Eibach parts
3rd set of outer tie rod ends
2nd set of lower control arms
All bushings are now polyurethane except for the front lower ctrl arms
Lower motor mounts are polyurethane and both upper mounts were replaced with oem ones recently
Countless brake pads and rotor swaps have been done
Countless sets of tires got consumed throughout the years
Most of the engine sensors that cost less than $50 have been replaced
I kept up on all the regular maintenance like fluid changes and plugs/wires
I only put Red Line MT90 Synthetic fluid in the tranny
I still have the original windshield (Until they ticket me, im leaving it on nana.gif )
The car has survived one semi major accident that replaced the radiator, hood and front bumper.

Thats about all I can think of for now.

My plan is to see how far I can push the original engine and tranny before something catastrophic happens that I can't fix requiring my to do a swap.

If anyone in California or a nearby state has a 2001 5spd that they might be selling over the next couple years then keep this post in mind and send me a PM. I would like to get my hands on another car so I could convert one of them into something I could start road racing with at some of the local tracks around here.

I buy it from a local Napa Autoparts for around $15 per qt. Its a little on the expensive side but its the best performing fluid i have found for this tranny. Make sure the bottle says MT-90 on it. The other red line fluids didnt improve shift quality like the MT-90 does.
