^^ Agree with Mad... calling the Tib a sports car is going a little far. I would either call the Tib an economy car or a coupe, class-wise. Kelly Bluebook and all the online sites call it a coupe. Hyundai doesn't make sports cars. lol.gif
well after reading that rolleyes.gif, i decided to see what different sites call different cars.
edmunds.com
tib - COMPACT COUPE/HATCHBACK
350z - COMPACT COUPE/HATCHBACK
corvette - COMPACT COUPE/HATCHBACK
Lamborghini Murcielago - COMPACT COUPE/HATCHBACK
kbb
Hyundai • 2001 • Tiburon Coupe 2D
Nissan • 2004 • 350Z Coupe 2D
Chevrolet • 2004 • Corvette Coupe 2D
holy crap look our cars rank the same as lamborghini's and corvette's!!! kbb uses those classifications for ease of reference. not the definition of a car.

New Car Test Drive - 2005 Hyundai Tiburon - John Rettie
Fresh styling for this sporty coupe.
"The 2005 Hyundai Tiburon sport coupe looks fresh with new front styling. It's a more attractive look, with a single large dark-meshed center opening in the grille flanked by fog lamp openings. Coupled with gill-like vents behind the front fender opening, the Tiburon has the look of a prowling shark, for which it is named."

dang ham, why are you always down on the tib? it's definently not an economy car, but it's economical. are you guys saying you wouldn't classify a car as a sports car based soley on price. are eclipse's, celica's, etc. sports cars?
my vote is sure it's a coupe, thats because it has two doors. my 1975 cutlass supreme is a coupe too. all this really depends on your definition of a sports car. but my vote is definently for sports car or at the very least a sports coupe, and most of us are trying to turn our cars into sports cars laugh.gif . a metro or a civic is a economy coupe.
edit: here's a couple definitions to help from dectionary.com
QUOTE (sports car)
n : a small low car with a high-powered engine; usually seats two persons
QUOTE (coupe)
A closed two-door automobile.

It's a bit confusing.
So, let's think...
Real coupe should have only 2 doors (like BMW 845, Honda prelude, Mercedes SL...)
Hatchback is a car with 3 or 5 doors (you can get in throgh the trunk door) (Opel Tigra, Mazda 3 hatch, Audi A2...)
Tiburon has 3 doors so it could also be classified as 3-door-hatchback.

yup, actually your probably right, i was just pointing out that kbb's classes aren't difinitive. anyways truthfully it should come down to performance, styling, and handling. the tib is a little weak in the power department. for the average car probably a 5 or 6, i'd give it a 8 or 9 for style and prob. an 9 for handling. but of course this is bang for the buck. they could have thrown on a turbo factory and gotten power up some.

where the hell did sport compact go? i thought thats what everyone called any four burner like a tib or a civic... well if you wanna get technical it IS a coupe, no question about that. but how about an economical sports coupe? i just call her baby...
oh and PS i dont like to call the hatch a "door" because there is no way to open it from the outside unless you have a a electric popper installed. if your going to go by "you can get into the car by it so its a door" then technially a sunroof is a door too. so tibs that came with a sunroof were sedans?
