Last week in preparation for our upcoming move we were cleaning out our storage shed. We had a 10 gallon aquarium in there and our neighbors asked if they could have it. So we gave it to them and they put it in their backyard. They had not had a chance to store it or set it up yet. Our dog (golden retriever) and theirs were playing and my dog ran right into it. He basically shattered the whole side of the aquarium. I did not get a chance to take pictures, I was too busy doing first aid on the poor guy. We took him to the vet last night, $650, 3 hours, and about 20 stitches later we were back home. Moral of the story is check your back yard to make sure there is nothing that could possibly hurt your dog. Remember Murphy's Law.

I never heard of a dog doing that before must have hit it pretty hard. Wow 20 stitches and 3 hours at the vet poor guy.
Vets are ridiculously expensive but as long as hes ok its worth it.
My stupid dog gets hurt all the time lol. Ran into a wall, fell down the steps, and other stuff I don't know how she managed to do. Then its off to the vet ER lol and pay 85.00 to walk through the door. But its worth it.

When I first saw the wound I thought he was missing half his thigh muscle. I thought for sure he was going to need to be put down. He is doing much better now. He is able to walk favoring his left leg. He still has not started eating or drinking yet, which I hear is normal for dogs when they get hurt or sick.

Pets are little people too. I am glad when you got the bill you did not decide to put the dog down. Dogs are some of the best and most loyal companions.
I feel bad for all those dogs at the humane society. It makes me feel good to know there are fellow animal lovers out there.

He ate two bowls of food tonight and drank some water. What a relief. I am going to take a picture if anyone wants to see exactly what this crazy dog did to himself.

Yeah, we are leaving here on the 15th. I am glad he is going to be almost healed before we leave. He needs to get the drain removed this Thursday and stitches removed on the 12th.

i love dogs, i love cats, i love pets, period.
i hope your dog will get better, and back to himself in no time! i've seen the way pets became after accidents, and it's truly depressing sometimes. i'm just real grateful my dog recovered his old self shortly after he was shot in the mouth. i hope your dog'll be the same smile.gif
