They don't call Economics "the dismal science" for nothing.

6 months ago was the first month of 600,000 jobs lost. That number has been exceeded by a lot every month since.

Unemployment lasts 6 months. Stats show that half the people who went on unemployment ran it all the way out and just stopped getting checks. Now they have maxed out credit cards, car notes, house notes, bills and groceries to pay for, and NO income.

So when they say on the news that continuing unemployment claims are going a little lower, don't wet yourself in excitement, k?

Insightful commentary as always from Michael Shedlock

I *think* the slide down hill will have stopped, but we'll still be at the bottom of the hill. Note that skilled tradesmen are faring fairly well in the current economic situation.

Things like that make me glad I stayed in the Air Force. Only way I can get "fired" is if I screw up. If you are in a career field they are getting rid of then they offer you another one.

we started to take one week off a month last month. i used that week to go on vacation and refused to use my vacation that i had saved up to cover my "hold week" for unemployment. I have since been looking online daily for something in the TIG welding arena and trying to stay away from MIG or ARC.

this month was kinda rough being one paycheck short and me used to paying bills weekly but i guess it is better than no paycheck at all.
