there was a write up on one of the links you guys posted..
there is a generic "template" to how the "winfixer" file is designed.. the actual file name will be different for every computer but follows the same pattern.

this is the file on my computer
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {8DBF02DA-4360-4A7E-BEA1-347B87816327} - C:\WINNT\system32\qomnm.dll

so i downloaded this program called vundofix
i rebooted my computer and ran it in safe mode and then ran the vundofix program and you have to type in the file and it will find it and kill it. it will automatically run Hijackthis..

thats what i did and it seems to be working..

thanks guys!

Next time try a System restore back to the date you weren't having problems.
I have an Anti Virus on my computer but I also use http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ free online scanner as well. I think it's great! On my last computer I had a virus that disabled my Anti Virus so I used the free online one and it got rid of it.
Scan your computer with your Anti virus, free online one, Adware, turn on your firewall from windows, schedule an update every week for your Anti Virus and schedule an update for your windows ever day just to be on the safe side. Also there is some useful stuff on http://www.grc.com/default.htm that can help limit unwanted stuff on your computer.

All this might be a little on the extreme side but I had 5 Trojans on my last computer that really made a mess of things. I never had problems with any pop-up though.

One more thing, if you have a wireless router...please don't use the default and setup the securities on it.
