why not? One of the best things about vdub... you can do almost any motorswap... take out the whimpy 2.0 (or in the case of the Golf, probably a 1.7) and you can drop the BIG VR6 in there... then have room to boost it. Boosted VR6s are sweet.. germans really love to overbuild their engines.
