^ Fair enough.
Do you get Honda CBR250s? The Spada has pretty much the same engine but tuned for more useable power at lower revs.
The Ninja ZX-2R is a sweet bike though. Redlines at over 18,000rpm. Can do 0-100kph (0-62mph) in just over 4 seconds. Only weighs around 150kg. I nearly bought one but ended up getting a naked bike as the riding position is more upright, which makes it easier to learn on. Cheaper if dropped too.
paperstsoapco: Not sure if you guys get all of these in the States but here are the bikes that I'd short-listed for myself when I was shopping for a good learner bike...
- Honda Hornet 250
- Honda VTR 250
- Honda CBR250R & CBR250RR
- Kawasaki Ninja ZX-2R
- Suzuki Bandit
- Kawasaki Balius
- Honda Bros 400
- Honda RVF 400
- Hyosung GT250R
- Suzuki GS500E or GS500F
- Yamaha FZR 250
& if you have no restrictions on power-to-weight for 250cc bikes, the quickest ones are the Aprilia RS250 & Suzuki RGV250 fing02.gif

If your fine with getting a 250 then definitely go for it, but if you're like most people once you learn you are going to want something a little more sporty. Personally I wouldn't want to upgrade right after I get into the sport so I'd recommend a bike closer to the 500 range. A little more pep but still nothing too overpowering.

I learned to ride on TW220's (Yamaha). Plenty of spunk.
My first owned bike was a Suzuki GS550. Heavy as hell, (I'm not tall or big either) but it was a lot more fun on the highways than the TW220.
