I am set on getting myself a weekend car to take to the track. Preferably something to go in a straight line with. LoL. I'm looking to get the best times possible with a car that will cost me under 15k to buy and about 5k in parts. I know a Z28 with acouple N/A mods would kickass but I want to be the one at the track with the import ripping up the muscle cars. Also if Im dreaming tell me so.

Reason I ask is b/c I have been all over looking at the following cars and not being able to decide what to buy...

Imports:

94+ 325is
AWD Celica
89+ Supra Turbo
240sx
300zx
Ecplise GSX
Talon TSi
rd2 (lol)

Americano:

94+ Z28
94+ Trans-AM
96 Cobra
95 5.0
>72 Chevelle
87 Monte Carlo
Grand National

Any Ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated!

if you wanna do straight line

the 240 is a good car to start with you can find one for about 5 grand and dump 10 into it hell i can get you one with a SR20DET already installed for around that price

americano

GRAND NATIONAL all the way man i love those cars

try to find a 88-92 mazda mx6/probe GT. they ran a 15.2 stock, and can do high 13's with very little done. plus not many people expect them on the street

My GSX rapes pretty much anything. The community for the car is strong, tons of knowledgable people. Imagine hundreds of people like Viper/Airborne/Random/etc. The aftermarket is strong. If you get a problem with it, someone has had it before and has already fixed it. Paid 7500 for it, maybe 5-6000 in aftermarket parts... mid 12s on street tires. I was probably mid 13s with just a grand or so.

Supra have unbelievably strong motors, the 2jz is slightly better, but the 1jz is no slouch either. Plenty of aftermarket, plenty of smart people.

Not familiar with the rest of the imports.

My best friend has an Altrac and the possibilities are not as great as one would think. Personally I think the Supra is your best bet. Its not unthinkable to get 1,000HP pumping out of those things, and upwards of 500HP is relatively easy to do from what I have seen. The 240SX is a great car, but not amazing when it comes to straight lines. The Supra would be my vote, and if I had the money I would deffinately have one.

Would SR20DET also make it worth while on the straight line? I know for drifting its one of the best combos for the price...

Are those front wheel drive? Trying not to limit myself with that. Prefer to have rear or awd.

Would getting a TSi be of any benefit over the GSX? Prob not but they are abit rarer on the street. Also...

I know that the turbo or twin turbo is probably the best but what about an N/A supra? would it even be worth wasting my money on it? or should I just get a N/A one then put a large turbo into it?

Maybe Im biased here but I love the Grand National. Those cars kick a-s and are fast as hell. My dad used to own one.

Out of imports? GSX and Talon are both AWD..I dont really think theres much of a difference there. Those would be my pick. Their fast and a lot of people are knowledgable on them. 300zx is too heavy though its nice..240 is cool since its RWD but swapping in an SR20 is the best bet either that or I know theres a turbo kit for the KA24 (stock motor) that costs around 4 grand and can get you about 220 hp..higher if you tune it. Other cars I dont know that much about..except the rd2 lol.

Its your choice..like I said I love the Grand National..when my dad had it, that thing ran 1/4 in 9 flat. I like the GSX but around here at least, its hard to find one with low mileage.

I'd get a mazda RX7 and work on that, even though it would probably be a pain in the butt. I've seen one really crazy RX7 coming back from Florida... sooo hot!!
