Last weekend, I went up to surprise my girlfriend with a visit (she's about 6 hours away going to school). We've been dating for about the past 2 1/2 years (actually it was 2 years and 5 months to the day!). On Saturday, we went off to a state park as we normally do, and went for a 'convenient' little hike. We had been to that state park earlier in the year and found this tree with a bunch of people's initials in it, so we carved ours in it at that time. So this weekend I was camping at that park, and the night before, I went back to that very same tree and carved the big question in it! So on our hike that Saturday afternoon, we 'happened' to pass right by the tree. I sort of prefaced it a little just before we got to the tree so she had some vague idea that the question was for her. She saw it, turned around, and there I was on one knee with the ring. She said yes, we were engaged, and both extremely happy! We both knew it was coming some time this year but she didn't know exactly when, so it was a perfect surprise. Not an unexpected surprise, but a very happy one. We finished off the night with steaks, potatoes and corn over a campfire, and s'mores for dessert.
We're looking at August of next year to get married.
Anyhow, just thought I'd share that all with you!

Yeah, she really liked how it was done, and lot of people we've talked to said it's probably the best story they've heard. I was trying to keep up with my dad who did it at the bottom of the Grand Canyon...
I didn't really get any pics this time, we'll go back there at some point and do a proper photoshoot, but I'll probably not put any online for privacy. Sorry...

Hot damn, that sounds just like me and Jed! We had gone to the state park at Niagara Falls and carved our initials in a random tree there, and his idea was always to go back and find the tree and propose to me at it.
But anyway, congrats dude. Don't rush it.
