3 minute shifts is actually a little long for ice hockey. you go out, skate your ass off for about 1 and a half minutes, then come back in. quick bursts...hell on the body.

It's tough to follow but the pros are like 45 seconds to a minute tops. If you stay out there for 2 minutes that is a long @$$ time. Once up the ice (Offence) and once down the ice (Defence) and you should come off, of course, depending on the speed of the game, number of players on the bench and such as well.
