I won't worry too much about ankle wieghts just make sure you get a set that will stay on. They might add a little more strain on your knees though espcially if you always run on pavement. I find it alot harded too

This may seem nutty, but it works.
CUT OUT SODA! I'm serious. My mom cut out soda and anything really fattening, in addition to cutting down her meal portions yet still eating healthy. She also would do crunches for 10 minutes in the morning and night (ultimately leading up to 30 minutes every morning and night after she got used to it) with one of those little ab-exercizers on the floor. Needless to say, she went from a size 11 in women's to a size 6 in only 3 months. Now she's about a size 4 or 5, depending on the brand of pants.
For me, when I went on a diet, I just cut out fatty sugars. I chewed sugar-free gum when I was hungry. I drank water and Crystal Lite if I really wanted something with flavor. I ate smaller portions of food, but it was still enough to give me energy. I would just do power-walking, since I can't jog or run. I would sometimes do crunches, but never really liked to. All in all, I lost 27 pounds in a month.
Hopefully my methods might help a little.

Try to stay away from weight loss drugs, it's not natural for the body and may cause complications later on such as heart disease. You're shoulder is hurt but your legs arn't so go walking and build up to joging. If you cut back on fried foods, cokes and beer along with walking/joging three to four times a week, you should be doing better after a couple of weeks
