If you want high capacity .45s look into the 2011 from STI. There goes the budget though.
You need to make your own wish list, then look for a gun that fills it. Then see if that gun fits your hand and budget. You will find people that love/hate any platform or model ever made on an internet search. It's not for everybody else, it's for you. What do you want? What are the criteria? How much are you willing to pay? If you can't come up with a list, get "something" for the meantime, because it will be a few decades before you decide what you really wanted.

Take a look at the Glock 22 also. I prefer my .40 over my .45
The Model 22 has the penetration and the knock down power, I have had too many .45 rounds bounce
back at me when striking something solid. It feels more like throwing a rock at something than shooting it.
Also see if you can pick one up with the factory night sights installed, it will save you the hassle of finding
an armorer that will install Meprolights or Trijicons later when you WILL want them.

I have a G22 (.40 S&W) also and am happy.
But, I have put down 3 deer with my .45ACP 1911, as well as nailing a coyote at about 75 yards. I will say, I've never seen anything do the damage to flesh that the .45 did.
Also, skip the factory night sights and get a set that is tritium, and has different colored rear dots vs. the front post to ensure you don't align them incorrectly under pressure.I installed my own night sights on my G22, it's pretty easy.

You totally should. I've been given a standing invitation to go shoot up a place in Lockhart with range rules dictated by me, and I live (a mile) down the road from an indoor range. I just need advance notice (weeks, preferably) to get the schedule lined up with my Darling Wife.
Be prepared to revise your wish list at least twice.
