do you have any experience building them or firing ones that were built? Just judging if its worth the effort, i def think it is. Arte they quality part kits or low grade?

The parts kits are chopped in half full auto foreign guns. Then you need to buy some amount of US made parts to make the fully assembled gun 922r compliant, depending on the configuration of the AK you're building that number can vary. Being chopped up foreign guns it varies a lot on the quality. Most will be adequate for reliable use, just some are more precise than others.
I have never fired a self made AK, but they're dead simple if you've ever had one apart. There is no reason why they would be any less reliable than a commercially assembled AK as long as it's built right. I have seen self built AK's and seen them fired and there were no problems.
If you find a local build party they'll have jigs for a certain pattern AK and could instruct you on what parts kit and flat to buy. Not all flats will work with all AK patterns, there's a lot of variation.
If I hear of another build party happening around here I'll try to get in on the action this time. Here there are several guys with the jigs and barrel presses that are very happy to help you build your own.
