drifting is always the slow way around the track. Grip is the quicker way around a circut. As for people saying that locking the rear wheels is not a drift.. you guys need a grip (sorry) To go by Merriem Webster:
5 : the motion or action of drifting especially spatially and usually under external influence: as a : the lateral motion of an aircraft due to air currents
Lateral Motion... going sideways... is one of the definitions of drifting. Sorry, but just like how the defination of what a sports car is has changed (for the worse) so has the defininition of drifting. In many ways, this is a bad influence japanese culture has had on our own.
Personally, I went to a drift exhibition once when SEMA came to Atlantic City, I did not find it that exciting after the first couple of minutes. Yes, it was new and interesting to see (once) but like watching the Nascar guys go round and round and round in a circle, the bright shiney finish quickly wore off. I hope drifting fades away like all proper fads are meant to.

And the point rocketwhore.gif for actually using it usefully is it better to let the rear tire slide a little on 180s I believe the evo guys were talking about how to do 180, like a hair pin 180, it was better to get some oversteer by by jogging it left a little then turnign right to get the right oversteer.
Ive seen someone drift once the guy was just playing around in his modded miata with slicks made more smoke than ive ever seen on TV, but I very rarely see it on TV usually on SCR where it seems like they are making fun of it lmao.gif
