I'm hoping interest rates drop just a little lower. 30yr is at 4.09% and 15yr is at 3.3% ... Looking to refinance at a 15yr loan and pay less than $100 extra per month. w00t!
thankfully I have another 30 years for my retirement account to recover. Since prices are so low, I've increased my contribution - buy low, sell high - since it's super low, I'm buying extra.

i'm hearing that the economy will not recover for at least another decade. realistically, the debt is astronomical and there's no stopping it. at some point the stove is gonna blow.

we'll see alright. i don't understand the economy all too well but i know that you can't make something from nothing (or at least for very long). with the debt unable to ever drop, it will force credit ratings down and sh** will hit the fan. social security will dry up, and no jobs will hire, government jobs will be the first to go forcing shut downs and furloughs. people will begin to protest. we'll just have to see but i think life is going to get very hard and government policies will become ridiculous.

Hopefully my wife and I don't lose our jobs within the next year. I'm trying to save up some cash for a flight to Belize. If I can make it there, I can always set up a hut on the beach and live off the land/ocean. Survivor style.

Guns & ammo not the problem. Water is the problem. You can store 6 months' food in the garage or basement or attic. Where do you store 20,000 gallons of POTABLE water?
Visionz, it is referred to as TIDO: The Initial Die-Off. If (e.g.) an EMP from an airburst nuclear bomb or a super intense solar flare hit the national power grid, within a couple of months there would be several hundred million dead people. I think society could hang on by its toenails if the economy collapsed, but not the power grid.
