http://mafiawars.wikia.com/wiki/ - Good info
Getting Started:
Each person in your mafia can hold one Weapon, one Armor, and one Vehicle. If you have 5 people in your Mafia, you should have the best 5 weapons, 5 armors, and 5 vehicles you can afford.
Don't sell just to upgrade, you'll need the lower stuff later. Get the best you can, when you can.
At level 15, people can start robbing your properties. This is the best way to get money - I've earned over $550,000 at one time, several times. I target those with Casinos and Hotels, as they give the most payout. Because of this reason, I don't purchase Casinos or Hotels, because I don't want others to target me.
When someone robs your properties, you have to pay to repair them and to protect them (you'll be out Millions of dollars). This is why I try to lay low.
Master Job Categories
Use the wiki link above. When you master job categories, you get bonuses. Energy is HUGE (the more energy, the more jobs you can do, and the more money you can make). Every time you go to the next level, you get skill points that you can use to increase your Attack, Defense, Energy, or Stamina. I suggest bulking up on Energy first, get stamina once you hit level 15, and build you Defense and Attack with weapons.
ALSO...
Buy a Mafia Mike's property every chance you get. Buy one, then add 2 friends, then buy one again. Also, check the Home page for "Limited Time Offers" as you have to add two friends before you can buy one. They're great weapons/armor for cheap, but you have to add 2 people for every 1 your purchase. Thus... Add 2, buy 1, add 2 more, buy one. If you add 4, you can only buy 1, then you still have to add 2 more before you can buy another.
When you're robbing people... (level 15+)
When you rob people, you can only use the number of mafia that equal your level. If you're level 30 but have 35 in your mafia, it only uses 30 to rob. It only lets you rob those at about the same level (e.g., 28-34). If you find someone to rob (someone that doesn't fight back and block you) then rob as much as you can until you run out of stamina, or until you've shut down their business. DO NOT Rob or Fight anyone in a clan! Their clanmates WILL retaliate

Robbing folks in a clan, as Majik said, or even attacking them, is NOT GOOD JUJU!
You will be killed repeatedly if you do so.
Other robbing tips.
When you click on robbery, and you get a list of names, pay attention to the mafia AMOUNT more than the level of the player. Pick the lowest level, but if there isn't at least 4 of 6 levels between you, click on JOBS, then FIGHT, then ROBBERY again, in order to get a new list.
Pick the person with the lowest number of Mafia with the HIGHEST level of property. Let's say you are level 29 with 26 mafia, and you find someone level 29 with 15 mafia, ROB THIS PERSON! You can either click on the "ROB 'so and so'" link, OR just click on the property right under their name for a shortcut to robbing them.
If your robbery was SUCCESSFUL, rob them bllind, from their most expensive to lowest properties, until you are out of stamina, and immediately put the money in the bank.
If the person attacks you for it later, you'll see it in the status on your main MW page. CLICK THEIR NAME, and you'll see a link for "ROB" again. HAHAH! Click it, and if they've repaired their properties, ROB THEM BLIND AGAIN!
I've come away with 50 Million dollars in under 1 hour this way.
Some tips on Mastery of Job Tiers.
Each job line has 3 levels of mastery. Should you finish them all? YES!
Here's why.
Street Thug has 3 tiers. You go through the jobs, max them all out, and you get a skill point and some bonus xp and stuff. But it opens up the second level of mastery, as well as giving you the name "Skilled Street Thug". When you complete this one, which will take longer because you get less job experience per mastery level. After the second is completed, finish the 3rd.
When this is done, you get a new title "Master Street Thug", and another skill point, along with a bonus.
Pistol Bayonet. This item gives you +4% to your attack.
The others have additional bonuses, like -30 seconds to your energy regeneration, ect.
My advice is to go for the BIGGEST jobs you can do, then spend the leftover energy on the smaller jobs in lower tiers.
I JUST finished the Associate Level - Mastery 3
Bonus for it is WAY worth it, -7% damage received in fights.
You will be killed repeatedly if you do so.

Just t be clear... PUT YOUR MONEY IN THE BANK! You'll lose 10%, but it can't be stolen in a fight if it's in the bank.
Also, on the home page, there's a "Send energy to our mafia" located right below "Improve your Character" and above your Top Mafia (to the right). From what I can tell, you can send it as often as you want. I click it 4 or 5 times a day. SEND IT ALL THE TIME! You can only receive energy once every 23 hours, so if someone sends it at 22 hours, you'll miss it. That's why I send it all the time.
Here are my top mafia guys. You have to request them as a friend, and put a personal note with "Mafia Wars" so they know that's all you want. Once you're accepted, add them to your Mafia by clicking "My Mafia" and sending an invite.
