My friend sold these for a while. It did seem kinda sketchy but he actually made about 5k in just a few months. The thing is you have to pitch them to strangers you make appointments with all day. Not my kind of work but if you are a good speaker and can sell things, its not that bad. But yeah you do have to pay for the kit. If you act like you can't afford it they will sometimes buy it for you. (Thats what they did for my friend) And while it does look like they are trying to sucker kids in (which they are) it is possible to make some decent money.
