They CANNOT VOID a warranty. Period. No manufacturer can. They can deny a single warranty repair, if they can PROVE the modification caused the problem. But if you bring the car in next time...they must again PROVE a modification caused the error.
Most VW dealers are really cool about warranties. Some here in so cal even offer 1.8T beetles and Jettas with upgraded chips as NEW!
