My home cpu is acting up real strange. I was running anti-virus, and the screen froze after the scan. It identified 3 viruses. When I restarted the computer, the screen was black, so I turn off..turn on. Same thing. After about the 6th time I see everything loading. I go to log in (windows xp home) takes me to the desktop (nothing loaded yet) than the log off window appears and it logs me off.

Basically, I can't log in, as soon as I do, it logs me out....wtf?

right before you see the windows loading screen before you log in, start hammering the F8 key until the options for Safe Mode comes up. Select Safe Mode. Complete your virus / spyware scan and restart normally. If that does not work, try Safe Mode with Network.

Yeah booting into safe mode and finishing all the scans is the best way to go.

Like they said, start up in safe mode then run the virus scan. And look around in your program files or whatever for anything unusual. Sometimes you can just see the problem like that.

Im scaning the comp in safe mode right now. It seems that I made an understatement. The cpu froze while scanning and it froze at Threats found: 3.

The actuall number of threats is a bit more than I thought.

If your in bad shape add a couple others to the scan.

i usually run ccleaner(do the reg. scan too), spybot, then update and scan with whatever virus protection they use.

After the antivirus program finished, it said it needed to restart in order to clean the infections. So I said Yes.

When I restarted it did the same thing. Logged me in, than before anything appeared it logged me out.

I tried going back into safe mode and it did the same thing. I tried safe mode with networking..same thing..safe mode with compand, same thing.

As soon as I log in it logs me out.

I have some documents that I need so I can't reformat... any suggestions?
