My brother just did a science project on these little babies. They really will fight each other to the death. It sounds sadistic but he based the project on the myth that animals/fish/anything will defend themselves and their territory to the death. He used the Betta's cause that was the cheapest/easiest way to go.
Names were Brutus, and Maximus I think.
Maximus died in battle.

Hmm, should I just post my living ones, or all my good ones including the deceased? tongue.gif
I have a Beta, but I just bought him for the coffee table and haven't taken a pic yet. He's red, just like yours.
So here are my dog-substitutes:
About four years ago, I had in my 75gal tank:
2 Bala Sharks 5"
1 Kissing Gourami 5"
2 Tinfoil Barbs 8"
1 Angel Fish 4"
1 Pleco 8" at the time

Then the black plague happened and wiped most of them out. 02.gif
I then tried a clownknife. I had him since he was a baby, then quickly grew to around 10". He died, maybe starved. Sometimes he would eat, sometimes wouldn't. He was just picky.

Here's how big they get in the wild: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/Sha...nknifeLarge.jpg
I also bought a Silver Arrowana. Arrowana's are BEAUTIFUL fish. You might see them in your local zoo's aquarium. They are also called dragon fish. The silver grows to 4' and they are known grab large birds out of trees. Well, mine thought he saw one and jumped through the canopy and fell to the floor. 02.gif
Not the greatest pic, but he was almost 24": http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/Sha...r/Arrowana2.jpg
Now, I only have my monsters. I bought my Pacu when he was about 10" long. Someone dropped him off at the petstore cause he obviously got too big. (Stupid people do that a lot. They get into something not knowing the consequences. Some people even throw them into the local river/lake, destroying the eco system.)
Well, I've been feeding him a healthy diet of hotdogs, peas, corn, chicken, whatever. And now he's about 22" long.

My GF loves him, so he's our big baby. She also likes feeding him 2" goldfish feeders : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...acer/Pacu7.jpg
He shares a home with my Pleco. I've had him since the first tank. These guys live through anything. I bought him at 1", and now he's about 12".

I'm now getting into the Barrel Pond. You take a cheap half whiskey barrel, put some pond plants in it and some goldfish, or small coy. It's on my front porch.

I used to build koi ponds, here is the only picture I could find where I took a picture of the koi in the pond
I'll post some pictures of my cichlids when I get home.
edit for pics:
one of my green terror
kinda blury my oscar is behind the terror, but he is hard to see cause he is facing the camera and my camera kinda sucks. The terror has since killed him tho.
