In a new car, 10w40 is as thick as I would go as well. In my Italian cars.. I have run 20w50.

Need advice what temp range to use (5w40, 5w30, 0w40... etc)
(I used 5w40 - no problems)

winter is up to -10F
summer is up to 100F

I drive my car hard.

I use Valvoline Dura Blend, half synthetic. For summer you want a bit heavier oil and winter a bit lighter. I use 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in the winter. You want to use a heavier oil in the summer to protect against the heat, and you want a lighter oil in the winter so it is easier to circulate the oil on a cold start.

A bit off-topic:
I also have to change the oil in my car very soon, but when I last went to the Hyundai dealership, one of the engineers there told me that he sold some products that are extremely good for my car that I should use on the next oil change. It's called METABOND and it's something like Dura Lube, only "more advanced". There are products for the engine, tranny and fuel. I couldn't find much on the internet about this ( www.metabond.com is a crappy site) but I read somewhere that Ferrari uses this on all NEW cars and also many manufacturers in Germany. Has anyone heard of this, or tried it? Is it all that, or just some bullshit that guy from Hyundai was just trying to sell?
Thanks!

Royal Purple is godly... and so is Amsoil. But those aren't any of your choices, so I would have to go with Mobil 1. laugh.gif

am I the only one that uses Penzoil?
I always buy Penzoil's 75000+ mileage, 10w30

what kind of oil filters do you all use?

would royal purple be worth to buy if you've always been using a non-synthetic oil and your car has 115k? does it really help with fuel consumption and hp/torque increases like it claims to? how often do you change your oil with royal purple?

Switching to a synthetic oil at 115k miles is not something I would do. I can vouch for Royal Purple, it does everything it says it will. Saw a dyno on Speed Channel vs. Castrol Synthetic, or Mobil 1 synthetic, can't remember. Was with a truck... out of three runs with the non-Royal Purple something like 205whp, 210tq. With Royal Purple, 209whp,217tq. It really is great stuff.

I used it as well and noticed some small gains, maybe a little better fuel consumption. B)
