I recently looked into some of the gallery here. Comparing to other car I found that something is missing. The MAF is not there in my tibby. It is simply a straight black conduit after the filter to the TB. What does it really do? Would it reduce/increase engine performance? Any comment is appreciate.
FYI, I am from ASIA. I got my Tibby in 1996.

its not simple black conduit... it measures air flow. overseas, you guys have MAP sensors instead of MAF sensors. your sensors measure the pressure in the manifold to deliver fuel as opposed to delivering fuel based on how much air flow you have.
we all wish we had MAP based cars so that should answer your question to which is better.

Thats exactly right. The MAF calculates how much air is coming in while the MAP looks at the pressure. The MAP sensor in your car will be on the intake manifold.

Well, MAP is manifold absolute pressure sensor. Generally it is on the intake manifold, but i have no clue exactly where it is on the tib. Can't say I've ever seen a map based tibs engine up close. :-P

Here's a picture of Doohickie's accent. It has a engine similiar to ours. I believe that's it to the left of the Throttle Body. I'm not seeing it on yours so it may be a different manifold.
Look at your intake manifold. You'll see various hoses running into it. Somewhere you'll find an electronic device which will be the only thing which requires power other then the fuel injectors and the Throttle Position Sensor.
