My car will idle at 1.5 to 2K if I'm rolling and put the clutch in. If I'm stopped in neutral with the clutch out, it's right under 1K.

Doesn't bug me at all, I rarely have the clutch in like that at speed.

I have no power issues that I can say, but I may go do a dyno with the 1.8 and 2.0.

Guys check you piping for vacum leaks, which could most probably be the cause. Replace all the rubber tubing, check ur airfilter too. If u guys are running a k&n it will get oil on the maf after around 6months causing it not to run properly.

Uhm, no.

A vaccum leak isn't going to cause a hiccup once every 800 miles or so.

the idle being 1.5-2k when rolling is normal, itll actually increase rpm with increased speed, if you let it slow down slowly you can watch the rpms slowly go down.

The other stuff, idk, doesnt happen to me

check your TPS. I had a similar problem, car jerking, CEL and no code. it was a Kefico TPS gone bad.

My TPS is a Keifco, replaced about 2 years ago. Yes, this is a similar feeling to when the TPS goes bad, but only once in a like thousand miles.

The car acts even more strange with a 2.0 ECU.

With the 2.0 ECU, the idle will surge between 1k and 2k randomly, up and down, like its trying to idle normal, but something is keeping it up.

The 1.8 ECU really sucks in my opinion. The only time it feels good is right after a reset. Otherwise, I get this power loss everytime I switch gears, not really a power loss, more like the torque curve has gotten messed up and uneven.

I think I'm going to send the 2.0 back to javageek, sell the 1.8, and put my rev A back in. Even if I lose some gas mileage, I have the driveability factor. And in the 1 1/2 years I have owned the car with the 1.8 rev A ECU in it, it has NEVER "hiccupped" at high speeds. The 1.8 elantra ECU caused that.

I think the 1.8 is probably fine for most people, but rev A RD1s are kind of a different beast. LOTS of "unique" things about them.

I'm also a 97 Rev A and using the 1.8 elantra ECU, and not having any of the problems that you are describing... but then again I am automatic.

Dunno what could be causing it, other than maybe you just got a shitty ECU.

*shrugs* Best of Luck

OK guys, I've had the 1.8 ecu back in for 3 days now. These problems have disappeared (except for the high idle when moving thing, which I guess people say is normal).

The real problem was something to do with my throttle body. Somehow, the coil/spring on my RSide BBTB got untwisted a little bit, and was causing some weird issues. My gas pedal would sort of stick (even though I had already sanded the butterfly down to fix that problem), the weird thing is that when the BBTB was totally closed, the idle would be high. When the BBTB was at the normal idle position (closed, but not tight like if you pulled the throttle cable) it would idle low and the car would almost die. It had to kind of be in the middle, it was weird.

My guess is that the rev A ECU was running way rich, so having it in maybe made the problem less noticable. And putting the 1.8 ECU in made it way more noticable.

Either that, or, it was completely random, and just coincidentally happened to be more noticable when the 1.8 ECU was swapped in.

Either way, it's fixed now, and the 1.8 ECU was NOT to blame. RSide is for their BBTB.

Sorry guys, there's nothing wrong with the 1.8 ECU mod. Although, I don't feel any increase in power, I'm keeping mine fo the gas mileage.
