Turbo Or Tranny Swap?
#1
i have decided to keep the tib smile.gif i just cant let it go. so now the new problem is should i get a turbo, should i do the auto to manual swap, keep adding performance mods and just go n/a, or get a body kit and paint job? which one would be better? right now i have a 2000 tib with 54,000 miles. as for mods i have CAI, cat-back exhaust and varius visual mods. just want to get some opinions on what to do. thanks a lot everyone.

back me up on this, but isn't it true that our Stock Automatic tranny's can handle a turbocharger up to 250 horsepower and the 5 speed tranny's need flywheels or bulletproofing?

actually, the manual can handle a lot of hp if you are kind to it.. the auto gives up the ghost even under stock horsepower figues when driven aggressivly.
I would go with the manual swap.. probably be just as much fun as a turbo.. until you start getting used to the new found power your car has now that the auto was not sucking it all up.

I mean, I hear of clutches going out all the time on manuals. even on new tibs. i guess there is little room for errors. but with turbo automatics all you need to do is look straight and go for it instead of having to worry about shifting.
i say: if you liked legos when you were a kid, you'll love a turbo kit.

Turboing the automatic is useless...
Learn to drive manual, do the swap now.
After awhile and once a stock 5spd starts getting boring, throw on an exhaust.
After that, turbo the 5spd smile.gif

The clutch is not the transmission. It is true that the stock clutch is kind of weak on the tib.. but most cars have weak stock clutches when you start multiplying the power. The car maker is only going to specify a clutch that can handle the stock power of the car.. once you start adding power, you are on your own.. even in a Porsche or a Ferrari.
BTW.. my stock tib clutch has 120,000 miles on, but I also do not spin or even chirp the tyres. Usually I wear out the rear tyres first
