Default Tuning with a Pocket PC

In discussions about the SMT-6 and tuning with a laptop the question was raised about tuning with a pocket pc. I have been searching all over for software that will allow you to tune with one of these "handheld wonders". I say that because the new Axim X50V is like having a laptop in your pocket. The only problem is you cannot run full blown Windows applications on it. I went to perfectpower where they have the software available for download. They have a Windows version and a DOS version. DOS = Yuck, right? Well, then I went over to aximsite.com and found a DOS emulator for the Pocket PC called pocketdos. See my screen shots below!

Now all I need to do is get the serial cable, and the SMT6. I know it will be better to hook it up to a laptop, but for those times where I am down the road and don't have it on me I can plug in the pocket pc and see what is going on.

Nice find Java. If you have enough money, you can mount one in your glove compartment for tuning only.

For Dos games... Get Street Rod tongue.gif: Quality dos racing game.

Good lord, you did it.

WOW.

Easy to change settings with it?

Dayum, I might have to get a minimal PocketPC so I can do that.

Java, questions.

1. Is it easy to change settings with that?
2. How much for the software sets? Are they free or FREE?
3. What is the minimal handset you'd need for that? This would be about all I'd use it for, so I'd mount it permanantly.
4. You better do a REDZMAN quality DIY with this whole setup when ya get it.

LOL

Hrm, I bought a laptop for $130 off ebay to keep in my car for tuning, but this looks sweet. How much would a palm pilot cost good enough to run this? And do all palm pilots have standard serial ports, or do you need to buy an adapter for the palm pilot?

Btw, Command & Conquer: Red Alert is a sweet DOS based game wink1.gif

I will have to hook up my X3i to see how well the screen looks on it. The X50V has a true VGA (640x480) screen, so it all fits well. Settings are just like using dos, you press F1-F8 on the virtual keyboard to take you to the different screens.

F1 = Fuel Adjustments
F2 = Ignition
F3 = Oxygen/AFR/LAMBDA
F4 = Compression
F5 = Global Map
F6 = Output Assignments and Bits

Of course I can't truly test it out until I get an SMT6 but it all appears like it will work.

PocketDos costs $38. But there is another program called DosBox that is free, it just does not work with the X50V yet. It does work with my other Axim though. You also need to get the PRS software from perfectpower, but it is free. So anyone have an SMT6 collecting dust somewhere? laugh.gif:

PalmPilot - Ghey.... J/K. This is for Pocket PC which runs Windows Mobile 2002-2003SE. They are not compatible with each other. I have an Axim x3i that I am selling... Check the For Sale threads.
