it's too dangerous to extend this period. Maybe new Hyundais have 90,000 KM between belt changes, but we need to doit every 60,000 KM (37,500 miles).

our manuals over here say every 60000 miles. ive never heard of a car needing the timing belt changed as frequently as 30k something miles.
the only reason i didnt buy one from you john is because the price kept changing from 160shipped, to 160 + shipping in the pm where i asked for your paypal addy. now its 175 shipped, but i see you have added the tstat and some gaskets. give me a firm price and a realistic timeframe until i will see the kit after paying and i will have no problem sending money your way.
you didnt even ever respond back in that thread.

I'll be interested in getting a mad john timing kit in 2 months from now. I'm going on a long drive and am going to make sure everything is in good working condition at about 58,000 miles when this trip is over.

I mean if you're really afraid of it breaking, you can change it at every oil change too,... but don't be silly now, they are meant to last 100000KMs or 60000MILES or 5 years, which ever comes first,... cuz they do crack over time.
I changed mine at about 75000KMs just cuz I was nearing 6 years,...
And when I took it off, no cracks on it, just normal wear,...

My manual saids 60,000 miles as well. 37,000 is way too frequent. I let the Hyundai Dealer change my timing and ONLY the timing belt. All other crap I let other garages do the work.

the only cars that I know that need a timing belt change less than 40,000 miles are the fiat/lancia/alfa engines that are based on the fiat 124 engine. As the first production engine with a DOHC timing belt, it's life is quite limited. We recommend every 20,000 miles in the fiat community.
Also, there is MORE at stake than just your valves. I have seen a car that broke it's tensioner.. when the valves stopped moving, several punch THROUGH the pistons and one valve head broke off and lodged itself into the top of the head. Basically, the entire engine except for the crank and flywheel was ruined.. and the guy was idling up into his driveway when it happened... just imagine 6500 rpms!
