Well, now that I have a tib with only 50k on it, I am wondering if I should switch over to synthetic oil .. I've read from some people that supposedly our engines "don't like synthetic oils"? If I were to do this I would be investing in some Royal Purple, just wondering if it's all worth it, or should I just stick with my conventional Valvoline cool.gif

I have run Mobil One in my car since the second oil change.. about 108,000 miles ago. Engine is still strong, does not smoke, and barely uses any oil at all.

The frequency of changes is FAR more important than what kind of oil you use. Just run the regular stuff, but change it frequently.

I have only used Synth since I bought the car 80k+ miles no problems.

Keep in mind the car sat for almost 3 years(unmaintained), started up no problems

Exaxctly what I was going to say. I just had my first real example of doing your oil change when it's do. I went 3k past the due time and I do believe I fried the turbo bearings. sad.gif I learned a very valuable lesson. drillsergeant.gif But i've been runnig Mobile one from the first oil change 5w-30.

Supposedly synthetic has a longer breakdown period. But ultimately, it's the same. So it isn't gonna be better than dino oil. It may last a bit longer, but it's not worth the extra $3-4 per quart. Basically, you are paying 3 times as much for oil that's not gonna last close to 3 times longer.
You could put in regular oil, change it twice as often, and still come out cheaper with the same condition motor.
