I have a home made short shifter on my car I did this by removing the shifter and cutting off the old shaft and welding a straight shaft of about half of the stock length. I know it shortened the throw a little because I am closer to the pivot but will a store bought short shifter shorten the throw more then my home made version? If so is it best to buy a name brand on or are the shifters on ebay for $40 usd any good? Is it worth it to pay the extra $90 for the name brand? Sometimes I think you get what you pay for!

R-side advanced from www.kspec.com. Definitely worth every buck!
When you cut your shifter, it's the same thing as just putting your hand on the lower part of the shifter...

Yeah... chopping doesn't do anything to the length of the throw... it just shortens the stick so you have to use more leverage to make it do the same thing.
Also, aftermarket shifters can sometimes improve shift quality... even though I hate short shifters as a product, they can be beneficial for easier shifting.

yes, shortening your stock shifter only does one thing. It makes it harder to shift. You need more effort to move the shifter because of the shorter pivot, AND the shifter is now further from the steering wheel, so you have to reach further for it.

I was kidding.
You can prolly just torque the hell out of it so it doesn't move.
