There is about 720 degrees of sharp turns in a stock air system. CAI removes sharp turns and the ridges on the flex-pipe,. CAI replaces ridges and turns with smooth bends and slick walls to reduce "eddies" or small circulations of air inside the main flow which cause restriction.

here's a couple of good AEM knockoffs you could consider as an alternative to the offical $300 part.

do not buy the cheap 2 piece ones with S pipe and the Y pipe that has 2 hose. they are worthless unless you are buyin them for the Y pipe only. There is another kit i don't know if i listed which has the 2 piece AEM style which is what I am running. It's a good kit and it's cheap.

^^^did you just run through those links and look at prices really quick? They're all pretty much the same thing. they are about 3" pipes and they put the filter outside the engine bay.

The dyno results from the one you recommended are from a GTV6 tib

Uhh, the first one is an Injen copy (AEM > Injen).

The second one is an exact replica of the AEM.

I have no idea about that 3rd one, never seen an intake like it for our cars..

The AEM clone can be had for $75-100, and $175-200 gets the real thing.

AEM is the best intake for our car, either get it, or a replica like posted above.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Speaking of which, where is that sensor right now if you don't have any tubing in there?</div>
Believe me, I didn't take out any sensor! The intake sensor is in the original filter housing, which is still on the car. There appears to be some other sensor inserted in the hard air intake tube running from the filter to the manifold.

One potential minus for CAI tubes. Because they are sitting in the engine compartment they are gradually heated up by the engine as you drive. They then radiate that heat to the (very) nearby air going through them. When you don't use a tube, the air coming through the front grill and then into the filter box is not in close enough proximity to any warm component for long enough to warm up signficantly. It would be interesting to compare the 2 approaches via a temp sensor at the intake manifold.

trust us when we say a cold air intake gets colder air into your engine...
(than a stock intake w/ resonator removal done)..

no. #1 and #2 are the same thing! they are equally good.

Injen copies look like an 'S' and usually come with a Y pipe. that one is a L + S in one. that's the difference between aem and injen.

3rd one is the same as an AEM but the tip ends at a 45 degree angle instead of a 90 and it's two piece
