Regular oil change
#1
All right guys. As most of you know, I know nothing about my Tiburon except it's fast as hell and I love it. I can do regular DIY's and such so this is going to be no big deal. But, how do you change your oil? oops.gif I know you untighten a nut and let the oiil drain out. But what kind of oil do you use? I know this is such a stupid question, but hey, that's what I'm good at. tongue.gif The reason I am asking is because I think I could obviously do it myself and I hate waiting for something when I know it's too easy to take to a shop. Thanks a lot guys

I use Castrol Syntec 10w-40 w/ a larger oil filter (mobil1 or the other oversize one, compare sizes).. Just make sure you get the larger filter, and synthetic oil.. Some people like to use 20% Lucas Stabalizer, but I prefer not to.. I have a knock for about a minute when I start it up after its sat for 15 minutes or so..

Changing your oil the fast (and probably unsafe way).
Pop the hood, take off the oil cap.
Jack up the front of the car (floor jacks go under the front tow point pretty nice)
The oil drain plug in on the rear lower corner of the oil pan...remove and drain the crankcase, when its just a small drip of oil, put the plug back in and tighten it. Every OTHER time you should replace the little plastic gasket. 35 cents worth of prevention...definately worth it.
While your waiting for the oil to drain, refill your washer fluid resevior and check your other fluids. Top off if needed. If you havn't done so in a while, check your tire pressures too.
Move the drain pan under the filter on the front of the engine...remove/replace the filter...some oil will come out of it, thus the drain pan. I use NAPA Gold filters.
Lower the car, refill the crankcase with 4 quarts of oil (I use Mobile1).
Fini
total time with practice: 30 min. same as Jiffy lube. hehe

manual says 10 w 30 doesnt it?...anyways i use the mobil 1 synthetic. not hard to change oil.
ps- when you put your new oil filter on, dip your finger in oil and run it around the outer edge of the oil filter where it seals. and screw it on as much as you can with your hands.

When I changed the oil on the Tiburon I installed a Fram SureDrain oil drain plug/draining system. I also used Castrol GTX Start Up 10 w 30 oil, with a K&N Performance Gold oil filter. I guess it cost a few bucks more for the whole set up but it should make the car better off for its new owner. My dad has always stressed the importance of a regular oil change and it has paid him back with the long life of his vehicles.
