I have a 2.0L RD2. I used to break the tires loose easy in 2nd gear. I've nearly no mods except a CAI. Now 2nd gear doesn't pull as hard off the gun but my mileage has gone from an average of 21/24 City/Hwy to 28/30. Explanations? I have about 80,000 miles on it now. The engine just loosen up?

If you break the tires loose on a basically stock motor you have some shitty tires lol.

Possibly the fact that winter additives have been removed from the fuel??

Sounds like you might be running lean if you mileage increased that much, although that is about what I get with all of my mods so maybe you were just getting shitty mileage before.

21/24 is pretty damn bad for a basically stock tib, it should be where you are at now 28/30.

Dunno about your power loss??

I'm running new Toyo Proxies. Yeah, maybe they're more sticky than the old Proxy. I know changes were made this last revision.

I had worn kumho ecsta 711's on my tib and after turboing I could bark the tires in 1st gear just by punching it. After I got my kumho ecsta 712's it doesn't even bark if I punch it going around a corner. Maybe it's just a mental thing.

either way how many miles? 50k change plugs and wires. otherwise change the air filter or get a cai, and run some fuel system cleaner.

This may sound kind of stupid but was the power you are talking about occuring during the winter? During the winter the air is denser (more oxygen per cubic inch) so your car will run richer to match the increase in oxygen. Thus resulting in more power (more oxygen and fuel--hehe). During the summer as air temp increases oxygen per cubic inch will decrease (and fuel will be reduced accordingly by your ecu) resulting in a loss of horsepower. Since power has gone down you probably aren't driving it quite the same. Nicer driving habits, less fuel, properly inflated tires maybe...all adds up to better mileage (what you should have been getting with your tib in the first place).

I don't drive agressive in the winter for obvious reasons (North Dakota) so I noticed it thing spring when I put my summer wheels on. At least it's good to hear that I'm finially getting the mileage I should be.

I have a CAI with a K&N Filter, plugs and wires were switched this winter.

About 80,000 miles. 5-speed. Might be due for another fuel filter but if my mileage is good now I'll just leave it. I'd rather get my speed fix with my bike at 50mpg.

Thanks for the input.
