i got my 01 tib last may in 04. the cars been great and ive done very little but im craving more. so far i have put in an aem cold air intake(which i love) the thing sounds great when i punch it and gave me a little kick, but its not enough. u guys have been helping me out with some exhaust questions so it seems like the exhaust is going to be my next step, but i know i will need more after that. i would love to put a turbo in but i dont have the money to drop on that. my main competition is a 2001 pontiac grand am gt. the kids been talking alot crap and i have to take my 4 cylinder and shut him up for good. help me win this one guys!

Best gains for the buck man!
You don't seem like a tuner type, you just want to beat that guy, you sound like a young ricer to me, so nitrous system would fit you the best.

Exhaust will give you the best easy bang for the buck... personally I wouldn't trust him with nitrous right now OP tongue.gif You just want another Tib in the junkyard you can pull parts from... lol.gif
Finish off the exhaust system, like you said.
Importshark - Hi-Flow Cat - 2.5inch piping - Muffler
4-2-1 Header
Should give you good gains for the $550ish you spend.

I wouldn't suggest nitrous unless you are really serious about learning everything about it and how it works. I've seen one kid down my street, wanted to be COOL and put nitrous in his car. Yesterday there was a slow traffic on the way to the gym, I look around, I see his car after the fire department finished with it.

first things first, if you have a manual tranny make sure you can shift that baby well--all the mods in the world couldn't help you win if you can't drive tongue.gif
now .. can someone pull up some times for the grand am? the GT ones are supercharged aren't they? those bastards are pretty quick .. if i were you i would finish off the intake portion - airram+bbtb. along with the cai and the exhaust, you will get some nice gains. get a nice set of headers to finish off your exhaust, you'll be set.
cost for this (pretty much complete n/a setup) would come to around..
exhaust + headers - $550 (hamhead's figures)
airram - 600
bbtb - 300 (if you can't get one, take your current TB to a local machining shop and have them bore one out for you to 58mm..that's still a big upgrade from stock and only costs about ~ $100?)

He still doesn't stand a chance against that car unless he has nitrous... Maybe if he got every single N/A mod and learned how to drive very well, then maybe, but why waste so much money when for $600 you can be a lot faster than with all N/A mods available?

Well... time to break out the side-by-side comparison eh?
2001 Hyundai Tiburon
140hp@6000RPM
140tq@3200RPM
2600 poundish
Average Quarter: 16.3ish
2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT (4-door?)
200@5200RPM
225@3600RPM
3500 poundish
Average Quarter: 16 flat
Now thats not a hard race at all... if its a 2-door it will weigh like 300 pounds less, which makes it a little harder.

NoS bad Idea?, and I just start to think about to install that to my car. lol
I think NoS is the best for him, but he has to learn about NoS and know how to use it.
what could be the problem of the car of that kid? pics?
