Ok..its Driving Me Nuts
#1
When i start the car, <u>sometimes</u>, something starts ticking under the hood. It is really fast ticking(sounds more like spark discharge..you know the static electricity)...but the damn thing is so intemittent that i can't find wtf is it..
i believe it is on the left(drivers side) of the car...closer to the windshield. It seems that sound is coming from under the air hoses...or that ticking thing is close to the strut...
any idea what can it be?

check your oil level.
what oil viscosity do you use?
if it stops ticking when engine warmed up, then I would say you can leave it as it is, until you will do some work with engine head.

want to get back to this thread...
just changed the oil.. problem is still there...
If Agarwal is right.. what can happen if its not getting fixed? also, it seems taht car tend to stall when the ticking is loud.. i'm pressing gas but the car is accelerating slow..
i'm more and more pissed with tib...after tranny went...its not the same anymore. rough shifting..stalls...for some reason has long gears.. but strangely, MPG increased...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Agarwal @ Nov 27 2005, 10:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>It's the purge valve. It's attached to the engine bay, near the driver's side suspension. You can feel it working when you hear the tick-tick-tick.</div>
that must be what my ticking must be from... it comes from that area and it does it whether the engine is hot or cold. Also, it has like two speeds; if you rev it it goes into like "double time", then will settle back down after a bit. Should it do that? and is it bad that its ticking? what the hell does the purge valve do anyway? haha

same sound here from both the tibs i've owned...i think it's just common guys. there's lots of threads on it, most people said it was the HLA's, but purge valve? I've never heard anyone say that's what it was before.
Agarwal give us a little more info on that plz
