Hi,I would like to remove this liner but don't know what to expect after doing so.After the engine gets real hot do I have to raise the hood to cool off?Is it painted under there or just a primer?I really like the design of the cross members on the hood and would like to show it off. Also,is it hard to take it off with out wrecking the plastic fasteners?Any help would be appreciated.Larrs

I can't remember the last time I had that thing on my car. None of my aftermarket hoods had it. But they were all fiberglass or carbon fiber, and 2 of them were vented. Only negative I can think of would be that the hood might get hot, being that the metal is exposed. You could always add hood spacers if it does get too hot under there.

They didn't do a very good job of painting under there. I'm going to do something with mine. I was thinking about rhino-liner
That sound damper is like 30Lbs. It's heavy as hell. The hood feels like nothing once you take that off.

I removed it from my 99 and the only thing I noticed was in the rain the hood would steam at times. For the most part it was painted under the hood, there were a couple of spots I had to touch up because they didn't spray it all the way.

I took mine off not long ago, everything is fine. But all the plastic fasteners pretty much broke, but i also pried them off with a flat head screw driver. wink1.gif
It looks cleaner and i doubt it does anything for heat anyways. and if it was to reduce engine noise im glad i took it off.

i havent taken mine off because i dont want my hood paint to get all sun burned/heated. like you see on alot of older 90's cars. i just figured it would make the paint look weird after say 5+years of not being there.
does anyone know for sure if taking off the heat sheild can have negative effect on paint after prolonged exposure??

Well, heat will acellerate all things, even oxidation. I've had mine off for a year. I keep my car well waxed, so there's no noticable effects on my paint at all. Keep it waxed.
