Ham, how much advance can your timing get?? very little, and what kind of power are we looking at? fractions of HP?

Great post Random! You restated some of my words and backed me up on some thngs!

Thinking that your car runs better with higher octane is called placebo effect! It's very very strong in medical fields especially!!! Do the bild folded experiment and it will prove that it's just your imagination!

Don't argue with two of us!!!

Timing advance doesn't usually yield too much added power. Few whp at best I would imagine.

OP, you go to the track more often than I would with the Tib. If your track has higher octane pumps (Capitol is pretty big, I would imagine it does) make a few runs on a low tank of 87 octane, then splurge on a gallon or two of 110 and see what happens on three runs of that. wink1.gif

Hmmm, we'll see. Maybe I'll do it next time I'm at the track.

Just be careful.. a lot of the high octane stuff still has lead in it.. that will clog and kill your cats.

Kit, this topic is about weather or not to USE Octane booster, not whether or not to put it hanging in the car you ricer. Warned.

Random, very informative and clears lots of spots and myths.

I know that old engines can be damaged by high octane gas. Valves and pistons can be burned out of the higher temp inside combustion chamber.

Higher octane gas does NOT equal higher temps. Higher compression ratio's equal higher temps. If you've got higher compression ratios (due to an old engine with lots of carbon buildup), then you NEED higher octane gas to keep the engine from detonating.
