Its basically for turbo cars only instead of lower compression to reduce to risk of detionation. On non boosted u dont want it, slower burn= lower hp

It will not do anything for a car with stock compression.

Octane booster doesn't slow your burning process.

The higher octane makes the feul burn more steadily and slowly which makes the risk of detonation lower and also less hp. In corky bells max boost from the chart you can run higher comperession with higher octane because of the higher octane making detionation less likely to occur.

Basically what Jaws said about the application

Octane is the number of molecules that can be compressed in certain volume before they start detonating. It does not burn slower or faster, it just has a little difference structure which will allow higher compression.

o ok i thought i remembered reading a previous post that said that, I found a def in my chem book as well

octane rating- measure of a feul's burning efficiency and its antiknock properties

So I guess if you tune the feul you can get a better mpg

I can get into more details for you if you want, so you can understand and it might be interesting to you.

Gasoline that we use consists of many compounds, but two of them determine one of its properties. They are Heptane ( 7 carbon atoms together) and Octane ( 8 carbons together). Heptane explodes very easily under pressure, while octane is very steady to higher pressure. When we look at 87 octane gasoline, there is 87% of octane and 13% of heptane in it. Those numbers will determine the property of detonation of the gasoline. So, going with higher octane number will just give you a lesses chance of detonation (explosion) and your fuel will be just burning, which is what your engine needs. smile.gif

The only octane you need is amount needed to prevent detonation. If you do decide to go with an octane booster (and hopefully you won't unless you're turbo) becarefull which one you go with as not all of them work.

Thats not necessarily true... I know on my GSX... and on N/A Eclipses, the computer advances the timing until it senses detonation, then knocks it back. So octane booster on some cars can get the timing increased by a little, creating a little more power. Probably only a few whp on a N/A car though.
