Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and have a quick question. I have started modding my 2000 Tiburon and one of the first Mods was an OBX short shifter. It installed perfectly fine and works well, but when shifting to first and second the neck of the shifter rubs agains the boot and plastic paneling?

I installed it correctly (I think) but it's been wearing down the boot and it's now starting to show a fair amount of wear...

Any suggestions?

Hey man read this I had the same problem when I installed my Rside SS. I think almost everyone has the problem but if you read this post it will fix the problem for you. I don't know if yours does this or not but mine also hit the cup holder when it was out. This will fix that problem also. http://www.rdtiburon.com/index.php?name=PN...highlight=rside

Yeah, the OBX has that same problem. I personally hate that shifter.

Welcome to the site Kork, please, look around, read, search, enjoy, but please don't double post. LOL

I tried working with the cables but because the shifter is hitting the left side in both first and second, it did not help by folliwing the link provided. Has anyone experienced hammering or bending the neck of the short shifter about 1/4 of an inch closer to the centre? I think that would fix the issue (If it doesn't sacrifice structural integrity)...

I have been hearing these complaints... and I have to wonder... how can it be a "short shifter" when the throws are long enough to rub the boot into the shift surround when the standard "long shifter" does not have that problem?

it could just be that it moves it over(horizontally) far enough that it is at a part of the boot circle where the distance is shortened.

got me :?

And the shift is only shorter front to back (1->2, 3->4), not side to side. Moving the gear lever pivot up higher also means that the body of the shifter assy is higher. That is why it hits the suround.

It's a short shifter in all aspects, it shortens throw in all directions.

The RSA hits the boot because it's adjustable and doesn't have an angle in it like this <. It sits like this I . The angle on the stock shifter and the B&M keeps it centered in the shift hole.

No biggie, just adjust it a bit, or don't shift like you are Rick James smackin a ho when you are going into 1st.
