The description of the item says that it only works for Audi/VW vehicles. There are different OBD-II protocols. Usually a type of converter is needed change the protocol to serial data compatible with a laptop. Also, once connected to the PC, you need software to read and interpret the data. You can download free software from a couple of sites, but the software is usually very buggy and can be very troublesome to use. I think your best bet is to do some research and pay the money for a decent scanning tool. BTW, all cars after 1996 (I think) use the same OBD-II port. It is only the protocol that is different. Each protocol uses different pins on the connector and a different data format to relay information.

that will work for VW / Audi cars... ours are not included. There are 3 types I believe... Ford/GM use one type, imports use another, and Chrysler uses another I believe. It doesn't look like Audi/VW use a universal one.
