need help
Ok so driving down the road and my timing belt blew. I now need to find a rebuild kit for my head and possibly new valves. Need them quick as this is my daily driver. Don't have a lot of money any ideas would be welcome. Thanks

Best bet is to get a used head from either a scrap yard or from one of us
But I would recommend just putting a timing belt on and see if its even bent

I am just worried about having the timing done just to turn around and have to tear it all apart again. I don't have that much time and I don't know how hard it is to do the timing on the tiburon

Bout a 3 hour job its not that hard, hell you already have to buy the t belt anyways what's the harm in tryin
If you take the head off, send it in for inspection, drain all the coolant, and replace the head gasket your lookin at least 400 bux and that's with you doin the work, if you pay someone your lookin at probably a week off the road and a grand plus worth

how does cylinder head components get damaged whena timing belt breaks anyway
i always thought there was enough clearence there so the pistons can't even contact the valves anyways

How is the timing based on this motor I know domestics are based off of cylinder one is it the same? Is there anything special that needs to be done

Well to test you remove the crank pulley which is the hardest part of a timing belt job I recommend renting a pulley puller from somewhere like vatozone
You do line up the setup from cyl 1 and there are marks on the head and block
You'll need to remove the passenger side motor mount so have a jack with a block of wood under the oil pan to support it
All the bolts are metric iirc 10mm for the cover 14mm for the motor mount and I could be off on this one its been a while but iirc its a 24mm for the crank pulley you'll probably need a impact to remove the cp since you shouldn't use the blip the motor method since the t belt is busted

If the lowest point of a valve's descent is lower than the highest point that the piston reaches, the engine is considered an interference engine. In normal operation, the relative timing of the valve and piston's motion prevents them from colliding, but if the valve timing is altered through wear or improper adjustment, or if a timing belt breaks or one of the pulleys the timing belt rides on fails, one or more valves may be placed in the path of a piston.
