Hey, Im about to put in my 1.8 cam, so the faster i get responses the better... I recieved it awhile ago, but didnt really look at it too much cept through the packaging. It is used. My question is this: how bad is it that theres rust on it? Its it a big deal? should i not put a rusty cam in or does it not make a difference. Thanks guys

Depends on how extensive it is... pictures would be nice. If you buy used cams they aren't going to be sparky clean... but it depends on how bad the damage is.
Thats why I buy new. wink1.gif

its only a little bit. i really dont think itll be a problem, i just thought id double check first. the only thing that concerns me is the fact that there is a little rust on the "pointy" end of the lobes.... that concern u?

Not the best place for rust to be <_< If it is only a little bit then it should be fine. Almost all camshafts that you dig out of used cars will have some rust on them. Once its coated with oil and in the engine it should be fine.

Just clean up the rust really good with some steel wool, wash the part really well, dry it, then oil the hell out of it.

^^ Yeah really... I don't think it would idle too much different. Computer should be able to adjust really fast to it.
Also why I'm tempted to go to the Hyundai dealership and get a brand new one for like $160.00... that way I know what I paid for. You can't really see that much of a difference between them.

With a CAI.. you should get a slightly more throaty sound at idle.. nothing most people would really notice.
As for the rust.. a scotch brite pad works wonders. Then I recommend some assembly lube as there is going to be NO lubrication on that cam when you put it in.
